Green Design Elements

• All paint is low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) which can be toxic to inhale.
• Minimal wall space in rooms, so minimal paint exposure.
• 12’ clerestory with operable windows allows for ventilation and natural light
• Most countertops are fabricated from natural stone varieties formed from natural rocks, plants, animals & organic materials. Stone is long lasting.
  
• Shower tiles are made from either glass, ceramic, porcelain, or brick. Glass is a resource efficient substance made with natural raw materials like sand and glass waste. Ceramic is highly sustainable and made of natural materials that don't harm the environment. Porcelain is an ecological material that is produced using efficient energy and water systems. Brick is made from clay and shade and considered one of the most eco-friendly construction materials. All these products have a long-life cycle and can be recycled.
• Pebbles used in showers are a natural stone that require minimal production and processing, requiring no other material or resource to create. Stone is completely recyclable and has the ability to serve many different uses. The Tanzu stone in the "White Rabbit" unit is a natural stone that is known to strengthen the immune system and improve the body's vitality.
• The flooring in the rooms are marmoleum (certified as environmentally friendly and biodegradable), bamboo (which is incredibly renewable), and cork (inherently sustainable, renewable and biodegradable). These floor materials contain low VOC and are recyclable.
• The majority of the built-in cabinets are laminated. Laminate is made from renewable materials. None of the raw wood products used to make laminate contribute to the deforestation of old-growth forests. The custom plywood cabinet in "Gaia" unit is constructed from plywood, which is a sustainable material made from natural resources and completely biodegradable.
• The clearstory ceiling in "Country Road" unit has a wine stave lid custom made with excess wine staves garnered from the winery. The "Ebony & Ivory" unit has a naturally blackened barn wood lid constructed from reclaimed wood from a 200 year old vintage barn in Missouri.
• Many of the custom headboards are fabricated from surplus wine staves or reclaimed wood harvested from the property. The headboard in "Changes" unit was made with corten steel which is an eco-friendly material. It is long lasting, requires no maintenance and is easily recyclable.

Furnishings

• "Less is more" is a phrase often used by architect Mies va der Rohe. For our interior designer, Elaina de Leon, it meant taking the design down to a minimum by removing elements that do not contribute to the pure function of the space. She kept this phrase in mind while designing each unit. Rooms are minimally furnished without excess items, which conserves resources.
  
• King bed frames were custom made as platform beds by a local artisan, so no additional metal bed frames were needed.
• The electric mirrors installed in the bathrooms removed the need for additional vanity lights, conserving resources and aiding the minimalist appearance.
• Our bedding is from Peacock Alley are planet-friendly. They source organic cotton and bamboo, and their fabrics use no dangerous chemicals. Organic cotton production consumes less water and uses no pesticides. Organic farms release less carbon dioxide into the environment.
• Our towels are Oeko-Tex Certified (trademark from the International Association for Research and Testing in Textile and Leather Ecology). A certification that textile products and all their components are non-hazardous and made without harmful chemicals, protecting natural resources.

Mechanical lighting

The entire property is run on solar power generated by the solar panel field and Solar Sun Flower. All units are equipped with LED lighting, and all lighting is run on a unique system that allows form master override to protect loss of energy due to consumer behavior (ie lights left on during the day while away from the room). The property lighting is set on the same system, which allows for safety lighting throughout the property that is initiated during master set times.

Heating & Cooling

Each recycled shipping crate constructed room is heavily insulated from the elements. Windows are double pane, argon gassed, and treated to diffuse UV penetration into the rooms. Each clerestory is flanked by operable windows to enhance air circulation with the diurnal evening temperatures of Paso Robles evenings, allowing for non-energy consuming climate control.

Each unit is outfitted with a dedicated, highly efficient mini-split to both cool and heat the space.

The entire property is solar powered, and therefore generates the energy required to operate the the climate control units.

EV Chargers

Every parking space is situated under each unit, shielding guest's cars from the sun and thereby protecting the need for heavy ac usage upon usage. In addition, each parking space is outfitted with a dedicated EV charger, thereby aiding our guests in their own personal dedication to minimizing their carbon footprint. Additional EV chargers can be found at the event center and the tasting room onsite.

All rooms are cleaned with organic and green cleaning products which are highly concentrated, thereby limiting water waste and allowing for safe surfaces and air quality in the rooms. Where possible, green products are sourced locally from local purveyors and makers.

Laundering is done onsite with high efficiency machines and using green clean laundering detergents, thereby limiting the possibility of chemical residue or decreasing water waste.

All toiletries in the room are locally sourced and green, from both the packaging perspective and ingredient list. We are thrilled to work with FableRune for the beautifully scented toiletries in each room.

Situated on a California Sustainable Certified Vineyard, the focus at the Geneseo Inn is on conserving water as the precious resource for both our land and our community. While you can read more here regarding how we source and recycle 100% of our winery waste water on the vineyard as a whole, we focus on details at the inn specifically:
